CHARLES
HOUSE STAFF
Paul
Klever
is the executive director of Charles House. He brings a personal
commitment to services for people with aging issues, along with experience
and administrative skills honed in his previous positions. Paul holds a
Masters Degree in Hospital Administration from the University of Minnesota
and a Bachelors of Social Work from the University of Kansas. He began his
career with a focus on eldercare and aging services, as a social worker and
activities director in long-term care facilities in the Midwest. Paul gained
experience as an administrator, leading the development of geriatric
services for a hospital system in Colorado, notably heading up the
establishment of adult day services similar to the Charles House program.
Maureen
Adams
has been a Program Director since 2004, having returned to Charles House
where she was Program Coordinator from 1997 to 1999. As a speech
pathologist, Maureen was involved with early childhood intervention prior to
her work with seniors. Maureen also has primary responsibility for volunteer
coordination, orientation and training.
Janne Groner
is a part-time Program Facilitator at Charles House, combined with her other
interests and jobs at a UNC lab, in a local animal hospital and as a private
healing practitioner.
Carol Gunn,
a recreation therapist and accomplished musician, returns annually from
India where she and her husband live part time, to provide leadership to the
Charles House music program which she initiated and led for 10 years.
Lisa Jones
comes to Charles House as a Program Director following experience in a
daytime eldercare center in western North Carolina and in Oregon. Originally
from Minnesota, Lisa also maintains an active interest in her university
major—as an artist.
Robin Kelly,
a transplanted New Yorker and a Certified Nurse Assistant, Robin is a
Program Facilitator at Charles House. Prior to Charles House, Robin worked
with seniors as an in-home care provider and in facilities.
Janet McCrickard
is our administrative assistant and is a native North Carolinian who has
several years of experience providing administrative support in various
settings. Janet was also involved with the care of an older relative with
dementia. She brings to Charles House a personal touch to the office
administration and overall support.
Liane Senter,
one of the Charles House Program Directors, supervises the personal care
participants receive and leads program several days each week. Liane
was formerly a clinical neurophysiology technician at UNC Hospitals and had
provided care for special needs children as well as for aging relatives
before coming to Charles House in 2004.
Nikki Senter
has completed training as a Certified Nurse Assistant on her way to becoming
a nurse. As a Program Facilitator at Charles House, Nikki assists with the
many tasks of personal caring and supporting the successful programming. Her
work at Charles House has reinforced her career goals of working in
geriatric nursing. Kate Shaw, a Program Facilitator, joined the program staff at the same time that her youngest child graduated from high school and prepared to go off to college. Kate's background in drama and in leading school activities are great assets with participants at Charles House.
Sue Uknes,
a recreation therapist and former real estate agent, Sue joined Charles
House in 2007 as a Program Director, returning to the field and work she
finds most meaningful. Energetic and positive, Sue brings wonderful
leadership and many ideas to the Charles House program.
An important
addition to the regular staff, Charles House has several wonderful
volunteers from the community and university who give so freely of their
time and energy to help with programs and interact with participants. To
name some of these great volunteers:
Sue
Brewer, Becky Bradly, Eleanor Schaller, and
Bill
Thompson.
