CORE: Caregiver Orientation, Resources, Education

The number of families facing the needs of aging family members and the challenges of caregiving is growing steadily. Often, families don’t know where to turn for help and guidance. Charles House counsels families with information about dementia, care approaches, advanced directives, emergencies, medical care, in-home care providers, rehab services and residential care options.

Caregiver Support Group
Charles House Executive Director Paul Klever and UNC Health Educator Susan Chesser run a monthly support group for caregivers at the UNC Wellness Center at Meadowmont. The group meets the third Wednesday of the month from 12-1:30 and provides a safe and compassionate space for Charles House and community family caregivers. Caregivers at all stages of their journey come to the group – from first-time caregivers to “alumni” who continue to attend after their loved one has passed. Sharing with and hearing from others going through the caregiving journey can help family members manage the stress of this role. The support group is free and open to the public.
